I photographed her sweet brother Ethan two years ago https://www.anyawait.com/2009/05/11/meet-ethan/ I can’t believe how alike and yet how different they both look 😉 Emme and I had a fabulous time together. She was quite the little lady! She even blew little kisses!!!!!! Peace, much love, and baby kisses ♥ anya
finley
Meet 3 week old Finley. Although I usually get wee ones much earlier than this, Finley had a bit of a rough start in the NICU. Fortunately he is home and healthy now and I was able to spend some time with him in his beautiful Spring Green home. And although Packer attire isn’t usually my style … he had this hat … and, well, I HAD to use it!
collins
Last Thursday I travelled to Rockford, Illinois to photograph this lovely 6 day old baby girl. Collins is the beautiful baby sister of Berkeley whom I photographed almost 3 years ago 🙂 Collins and Berkeley and here is Berkeley at her newborn session, July 2008. priceless…
That is what these images are to me. It does not matter to me that I felt fat when these photos were taken, or that I really don’t like the outfit I am wearing. What matters to me most is that in these photos, you can see how our family used to be. My children have documentation that there was a point when we were happy, and that their daddy loved them very much. People often question how much they are willing to spend on great photography. Great photography and timeless images do not come cheap. But I can assure you that they are worth every single penny. These beautiful images and this canvas collage were created by the amazingly talented Anna Mayer http://www.annamayer.com Thank you Anna, for creating priceless memories of our family together.
when life gives you lemons …
go to Mexico! My family spent the entire month of November traveling around Mexico. We experienced Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and all points in between…because we drove…yes, drove! We then flew from Mexico City to Merida and once again…drove…the three hour drive to Tulum. At the end of our trip we decided to play tourists for a couple of days in Cancun, just for the heck of it. After a month all over Mexico, Cancun seemed ridiculously cheesy 😉 For the entire month, we spent only 3 nights in a hotel. During our time we rented two homes on the beach as well as an apartment in the Historic District of Mexico City. It was absolutely fabulous! These images are from beautiful Tulum. We hung out on the beach, body surfed (well my kids attempted), snorkeled, built sand castles, ate fantastic seafood, and just basically enjoyed each other’s company. At first my kids were a little culture shocked by the fact that we had no television, our home was powered by a wind generator, and internet was spotty, to say the least. But they came around and got used to it. They even learned how to play with one another…
spreading my wings a bit …
A couple weeks ago I made the journey to Oceanside, California to attend a workshop hosted by two of my favorite photographers, Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall of Baby as Art: Baby as Art Following Carrie’s newborn work was actually what started me out wanting to be a newborn photographer (well, that and I am madly in love with babies and mamas). Even though for the past three years I have felt very confident in my work as a newborn photographer, I still felt like there was something I was missing. Something I needed to learn. Spending two full days with them (as well as 6 babies and families) was an eye opening learning experience. I brought back so much knowledge that it has taken me two weeks just to write this post about it. Here are the two in action….I was so honored that on the first day Carrie asked me personally what I was looking for out of the workshop. I spoke with her about some things I was hoping to learn…the next day she comes up to me and says that we will spend some time working on just that! The second photo is both Carrie and…

belly and a two year old … growing
So I always have high hopes for the wonderful images I am going to capture of siblings with their mama’s burgeoning belly. Suffice to say, those images in my head never end up revealing themselves to my camera. What does end up happening, I have discovered (hence the growing in my title), is that the images that do end up appearing are so utterly perfect in their own right. This was proven to me in the session that follows. I photographed this little man when he was a teeny tiny 6 days old almost two years ago. He was such a sweet little tiny cherub. When we started this particular session I had in mind some of the images I wanted to create. What ended up happening seemed like utter chaos. I left thinking that I was not able to capture any images of him with his sweet sister before her birth. What I ended up discovering was that the images I captured were a perfect documentation of little Ethan and who he is at this age. Not my own idea of who he is. Who he truly is. I will start with his beautiful mama… and now the big…
